Case Summary: Miller v. Cox, 2023 BCSC 349

Playing recreational sports can be physically demanding, and players assume the risk of sustaining injuries when they choose to participate in the activity. However, sometimes players can behave in a negligent, dangerous manner that violates the other players’ reasonable expectations of safe play. Investigating Sexual Abuse in the Canadian National Baptist Convention

According to a third party investigation released in 2022, the voices of hundreds of victims of sexual abuse within the Southern Baptist Convention were silenced when they tried to speak out about their experiences. The findings appear to indicate that, over the last two decades, more than 700 members of America’s largest Protestant church were subjected to sexual abuse, and that reports of this widespread misconduct were actively suppressed by the organization’s leadership. A proposed class action lawsuit alleges that, between 1976 and 2013, physical and sexual abuse of students was carried out by staff members employed at Vancouver College and St. Thomas More high schools.
